In 1867 Richard Harris opened a woolen mill in Rockwood which operated until 1919. This stone structure was built in 1884 and was destoyed by fire in 1965. It is now part of the Rockwood Conservation Area.
Named after the local beds of plaster of paris (gypsum) this beautiful town was the site of the first long distance telephone call from Alexander Graham Bell in nearby Brantford.
