Winter Contemplation

There are many benches along the various trails at the Ignatius Centre. This morning was cool and quiet - just right for a contemplative walk.

Ignatius Trail

The trails of the Ignatius Jesuit Centre of Guelph are open year round - the centre has been in Guelph since 1852. You might see a few ice fishers on the Marden Creek pond - where Highway 6 crosses over just north of Guelph. That creek flows down to the Speed River - you can walk right out to Guelph Lake along the shores.

dancer or prancer

Is it a rain dance dear?
Great park to take kids to see some animals and birds - raptor demonstrations, peacocks, farm animals and maybe Rudolf - though the nose doesn't seem quite right.

trail art

While walking a trail along the Eramosa River this morning we came across an area where someone had created an art piece - hanging from various branches were many beads, wires, spoons, forks, wires, bottles, shells, etc - delicate beauty.

african drum workshop

We went to an African drum workshop tonight taught by Fule Badoe. About 30 folks from 7 to 70 - amazing how quickly everyone picked up the rhythm - powerful sound - Fule is a great teacher - fun fun.

this is your brain on music

Just finished a totally fascinating book about the art and science of music - the role of music in our daily lives and our evolution - This Is Your Brain on Music - by Daniel Leviton. Highly recommended. NY Times review here. Thanks to my brother Rob for showing it to me.

Little Tract

There's a maze of looped trails throughout the Little Tract, a Wellington County forest on Road 34 between Road 32 and 35.
Summers see a lot of bikes and horses as well as people. These days it's great for cross country skiing if you don't mind a few minor hills.
